Benefits of Switching to Glass Products

Posted by on

In one of our previous posts, we provided a list of materials for you to be on the lookout for as great single-use plastic alternative on your green living journey. In this post, let’s dive deeper into exploring the benefits of one of these materials: Glass.

Glass is sustainable

The main ingredient in creating glass is sand - and if you’ve been to the beach lately, you can see that sand is everywhere! It’s a naturally abundant material that we’re not going to run out of any time soon. Add to that the fact that glass products are durable and can last for a long time (unless you’re a clumsy person of course), and we have ourselves a product where our demands do not outpace the supply. That’s what we call sustainable.

Glass is good for your health

As with other alternatives, glass does not contain the estrogen-mimicking BPA in plastics that is so widely panned in the scientific (and mainstream) community. It doesn’t leach chemicals or react with what you put inside it, making it a great option for food and liquid storage.

Glass is user-friendly

Glass doesn’t absorb residual odors or tastes from what you put inside it, making it super easy to maintain, even when used to hold oily foods and other tricky stuff. They’re easy (and safe) to clean using a dishwasher. On top of this, unlike plastic, it’s easy to tell when glass is clean. Maintaining glass products, therefore, don’t have to be a pain. So not only is glass eco-friendly, it’s also user-friendly. It’s just friendly.

As with all materials, glass has its downsides: mainly it’s breakability and it’s heavy weight relative to plastic. However, even with these kinks, it’s clear that the ups outweigh the downs. Glass really is a great eco-friendly alternative to plastic.
